Elle Rotstein - Loreto
originally published in her. magazine volume 10
“I have been traveling to Loreto, in Baja California Sur for the past 15 years. It's my home away from home, my slice of paradise. Adjacent to the Sea of Cortez, it's a humble and sleepy city, rich in history and biodiversity.
When Colin, my partner and collaborator, started traveling there with me, we would go on little excursions in search of objects to collect and photograph. He on the lookout for shells, driftwood, and bones while I foraged for flowers, plants, and seed pods.
Originally, it was a way for me to practice floral arranging. As I gained confidence in my skills, we began exploring outside of the controlled environment of landscape design. Biking for hours in search for wild flora, our adventures and my arrangements all captured in his lens.
Our desire to explore the Baja Peninsula grows deeper from every trip. Its variation in topography, geology, and weather has created a unique ecosystem where vegetation from the Mediterranean, the desert, and the tropics can grow. We are constantly inspired, and our curiosity for this region is endless.”
